International

The international public sector market is highly lucrative for multinational suppliers. The size of the market, long contract lengths and high prestige makes it a competitive bidding environment. Many high-performing international suppliers struggle when bidding into the UK because of the complexities of the procurement process and find themselves missing out on key contracts.

Kittle Group has excellent examples and experience supporting leading multinational suppliers in this situation and helps breakdown complex procurement requirements into a simple process and successful bid submissions. The fundamental skills of a winning bid translate not just between sectors, but also worldwide. Whether you are an international supplier bidding into the UK for the first time, or a non-UK based client, Kittle Group can help you win!

International Case Studies

Joint venture to design, manufacture, and install precast concrete tunnels as part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project

A French engineering specialist and UK concrete supplier sought Kittle Group’s support in their joint venture bid to design, manufacture, and install precast concrete ‘green tunnels’ as part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project.

The UK client, and their French consortium partner, reached out to Kittle for urgent assistance with their tender just one week before the deadline. Three of our senior writers were assigned to the project. They worked collaboratively with both parties to fully understand their solution and produce a winning bid in under a week.

Our client’s bid was successful and led to a £10m contract with HS2 Ltd.

Facilities Management for the South Atlantic Islands Defence Estate

Our client, a German logistics and FM provider, contracted us for support on their first bid into the UK. They were bidding into the DIO to provide total FM (including cleaning, security, and waste) for the DIO’s Defence Estate on the South Atlantic Islands. The bid required over 500 pages of content across multiple, highly technical service lines, so we provided a large team of seven Bid Writers to draft and consult on responses to ensure they scored highly.

As it was their first time bidding into the UK government, our client chose us to provide expert guidance around unfamiliar requirements such as social value, TUPE regulations, and BIM. Our team attended weekly calls with the DIO and also supported our client with the BAFO stage, demonstrating our ability to provide a wraparound, end-to-end service.

The client was extremely happy with our service and their Bid Manager left us the following feedback:

“Kittle was a sensational help! The writers had their heads in the game right from the start. Proactively searching for information themselves, always reachable, absolute professionals. Very flexible in the whole process and absolutely committed and engaged. Could not think of a better company to work with. Highly recommended!”

Previous bids into Australia

We have a standout record helping bids into Australia’s public sector.

The first of these was a bid to operate Acacia Prison in Western Australia, supporting the UK-based incumbent supplier. This was a complex tender, as the Western Australian Government had committed to nationalising private prisons. Our Managing Director Alan Kittle helped our client make a persuasive case for private management. The Western Australian Government was convinced, awarding our client a new contract.

Alan supported the same client bidding to renew their contract to provide medical supplies to Australian Defence Force (ADF) facilities. He produced compelling responses demonstrating the benefits of retaining the client, and the added value they would bring. The ADF was convinced, offering the client a two-year contract extension.

Recently, we worked with an Australian client bidding to provide staff augmentation for Cenitex, Victoria State’s public sector technology provider. Our three writers offered flexible and collaborative working with the client, such as agreeing to early calls to accommodate time zone differences. The client praised our work, delivered at pace to meet tight deadlines, and we are awaiting the bid outcome.

Logistics for the ADF

A multinational outsourcing provider, operating in Australia, commissioned us to lead a project for the retention of a service with the Australian Defence Force for a contract extension. The contract involved the supply and logistical management of medical and dental supplies to over 650 military facilities across Australia and overseas.

Given the strategic importance of the project and tight turnaround, we assigned one of our Senior Writers. Our writer co-located with the client’s team in Australia, to facilitate efficient communication and collaboration. They worked with the client’s staff across its operational, commercial, and business development teams to gather the necessary information, creating a proposal for the Australian Defence Force that used both engaging narrative and graphics to make the case for retaining the contract.

This was a successful project for the client, completed in just one week, and led to them retaining the contract for a further two years.

Electronic monitoring for the New Zealand Department of Corrections

We supported a globally operating American Electronic Monitoring cooperation in partnership with New Zealand telecommunications and security companies with a $180m (NZD) bid.

The consortium sought our support to prepare a tender to the New Zealand Department of Corrections for the provision of electronic monitoring equipment and software for its programme of community offender management.

For us, this project had the added dimension of working across the consortium of three organisations in the USA, UK, and New Zealand and across four different time zones. Our team worked collaboratively with the clients, across the different time zones, understanding their solution for the service to create a coherent account for the bid responses. With the New Zealand Department of Corrections as the Buyer, it was crucial to write using the correct terminology which differed slightly from terms used in UK-based bids. To monitor this, we created a glossary of New Zealand terminology and slang, and also commissioned a New Zealand native to check all responses.

Our client was very happy with the bid we produced, submitting a tender that they recognised was the highest quality they had ever prepared. We achieved the highest quality score of all the bidders.

New blockchain technology for the European Commission

We supported an innovative Distributed Ledger Technology start-up to conduct a two-stage review of their draft proposal to the European Commission. This contract was to collaborate with the Commission’s technology experts drawn from across the EU,  and create a new blockchain technology for the delivery of public-facing services in a secure environment.

Firstly, we reviewed outline answer plans to advise the client about the overall structure of their responses and confirm their material answered the Commission’s questions.   We then conducted a full review of the drafts, giving detailed feedback on elements such as the logical flow of content and language; the strength of evidence provided; and their win themes.

This client had no prior experience of bidding, and so found considerable value in advice and guidance on interpreting the Commission’s documentation and the form responses should take. Our experience meant we could advise on ambiguous questions and repetition.

The project demonstrated the team’s ability to learn complex, and cutting edge, subject matter at speed, in order to accurately convey our client’s solution.

This was a successful project for the client, resulting in a contract win with the highest quality score in the competition, massively exceeding that of the next highest bidder.

“Christian was able to get through a large volume of technical information very quickly…. He delivered on time, in full, and there was excellent visibility and communication throughout.  This made it feel like we were all part of one team.”
